[On Campus] Course Registration, Don’t Wait Anxiously Anymore

No. 154 / Oct 18, 2021

In August of this year, the second semester of 2021, Ajou University adopted the Cancellation-Registration Delay System for the first time. This term refers to a method of giving information on the available time for class registration when a seat becomes open due to a cancelation after class applications are closed. When this happens, the number of seats available and the time available to enroll will be reported immediately. In the previous system, the open seat was made available immediately on the student cancelling the course registration, and could be allocated immediately on a first-come, first-served basis. The new system informs students that there is a seat available when one occurs as well as when then can register for that class. Usually, this will be about an hour after the cancelation, so there is a time difference between the occurrence and the opportunity for enrollment. The “Cancellation-Registration Delay System” is used during main course applications, course period changes, and summer session or winter session, and is not applied when applying for preliminary courses. Why was the new system adopted? Under the previous system, it was possible to register and trade classes If buyer buy a seat for money, the seller cancels the lecture at a fixed time, and the buyer can apply for the lecture at that time. In this case, it was difficult to prevent this behavior because other students could not wait for the lecture to be canceled the whole time. Thus, fairness in registration has increased. Now, through the delayed course registration time, it is possible to know exactly when to apply for canceled seats. One no longer need worry about whether a sale will take place.
