Ajou University signed an agreement with Suwon-si to promote its campus as a campus innovation park. The original name of this business is the Campus Innovation Park Creation Project. This project is led by government institutions such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, KOREA LAND & HOUSING CORPORATION (LH), Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Startups. If Ajou University were chosen, urban high-tech industrial complex will be built on an idle site of our campus. In addition, corporate occupancy, startup supporting, residential, and cultural facilities will be located there. Particularly, corporates situated in the innovation park would be supported by the industry-university cooperation program.
This is the fourth innovation campus project, and Ajou University is competing for the second time. Ajou University attempted this project in 2019 but failed. In this regard, The Ajou Globe (The AG) interviewed Ajou University’s office of planning director Yoon Jeong-yong. He said, “Our school could not apply for the final project in 2019 because it did not meet the requirements about regulations of the total amount of factories in Suwon-si, where Ajou University is located. However, this time, through the cooperation of Suwon-si and Gyeonggi-do, it became possible to apply for the project.”
If the school is selected as an innovation campus, The AG wishes that the university can be transformed into a central industrial complex in Suwon-si and Gyeonggi-do, not limited to academic fields.
