Adisaster-level earthquake struck southeastern Türkiye in the early morning of February 6 local time. It occurred inland, not on the sea or the outskirts, and the damage was concentrated in the city. More than 52,000 people were killed and many buildings collapsed. Refugees who have lost their homes are immeasurable. Moreover, Rescue work is delayed due to poor environmental conditions.
Professors, employees, and students at Ajou University raised funds to help recover from the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria from March 14 to 20. A total of 381 people participated and raised 16,155,000 won. The donation will be used to deliver emergency relief supplies for victims and support on-site restoration through the Korean Red Cross in Gyeonggi-do.
On March 23, President Choi Ki-joo met and talked with Turkish students in person at the president’s office. Ajou University has 10 Turkish exchange, undergraduate, and graduate students. President Choi said, “I deeply console all the families, friends, and the people of Türkiye who have lost their homes.” Adding, “I hope our sincerity and hearts will be of some help, and we will actively provide necessary help and support to Türkiye students at Ajou University.” Ozer Zeynep (Korean name: Kang Bo-ra, the Department of Korean Language and Literature), a student at the Ajou Graduate School, said, “I would like to thank you for your careful consideration.” Adding, “Thank you for your Korean sincerity, comfort, and practical help.”
We do not dare to understand the pain of those who lost their lives, but The Ajou Globe (The AG) offers our sincere condolences to the victims and their families in earthquake-stricken Türkiye and Syria.
