No.161 / Dec 12, 2022
Ajou University receives applications for major changes during a certain period every semester (around May in the first semester and November in the second semester). A “major change” refers to a system that allows students to choose whether to complete their first majors as an in-depth major, or take double, minor, or linked majors.
This semester, micro majors were introduced. Students can adopt these majors regardless of their main majors, and can take up to three. Since the completion unit is smaller (9 to 15 credits) than minor majors, at least two micro majors must be completed to meet graduation requirements. However, in this case, micro majors consisting only of their first major subjects are excluded. Like minor majors, it is not recognized as a degree, but the phrase “Completion of ___ Micro Major” is written on the diploma.
Micro majors were established this semester, and include these 8 majors: The Future Car (beginner/intermediate/advanced) (operated by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Transportation Systems Engineering, the Department of AI Mobility Engineering), Hydrogen Energy Process (organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering), Hydrogen Energy Technology (organized by the Department of Chemistry), Hydrogen Energy Materials (organized by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering), AI in Medicine (organized by School of Medicine), and AI (organized by the Department of Software and Computer Engineering).
Also, there are other micro majors scheduled to be established in 2023, which include these 10 majors: AIoT and AI Intellectual Property (organized by the Department of Software and Computer Engineering), Blockchain, Big Data Intellectual Property, and Intelligent Security (organized by the Department of Cyber Security), Digital Human, Metaverse Intellectual Property (organized by the Department of Digital Media), Metaverse Planning (operated by the Department of Digital Media, the Department of Software and Computer Engineering), Korean Literature and Culture, and Korean Language and Culture (organized by the Department of Korean Language and Literature).
