Ajou University Leaders in Industry-university Cooperation (LINC+) arranges internship opportunities for students every semester. LINC+ intern program helps students apply their majors through practical experience and prepares them for full-time employment. Juniors or seniors can apply for the internship and can work as an intern officially. In addition, during the internship period, students can earn 3 credits per month as summer or winter session credits. The following interview is with Kim Gun-soo (3rd grade, Department of Business Administration) who completed LINC+ intern program during the summer vacation.
Q. Which company did you work for? What was your position?
A. I worked as an assistant in accounting and taxation at Saesidae Accounting Corporation.
Q. What did you learn from the LINC+ intern program?
A. First, the biggest advantage of the internship was that I could learn in practice how to work and how to apply my major knowledge directly in my work experience. In addition, I was able to perform a variety of jobs, such as calculating the transfer tax of customers, appraising actual auction items, and writing investment projects, more than I expected.
Q. What do you think are the strengths of LINC+ intern program?
A. In my case, I could gain valuable advice about my future because LINC+ intern program is an industry-university collaboration and the superior accountant was an alumnus of Ajou University. Moreover, I think the greatest strength of the LINC+ intern program is that you can learn whether your major is suited for you or not. Even if you do not cut out for your major, it will be a good opportunity to pursue another goal.
Q. Do you recommend LINC+ intern program to other students?
A. I highly recommend it. As the opportunities for internships are decreasing day by day and the job market is shifting to frequent hiring, students have to know exactly how to work in practice. However, in this highly competitive job market, it is difficult to learn and work in the real world. Internship provides opportunities to work as an intern, so I urge you to use this opportunity.
As the interviewee stated, working for a company is becoming harder and harder. Students want to learn how to work in practice, but employers want students to know every duty in advance. Companies want to recruit career staff, but there are few positions for students to build their careers. Therefore, LINC+ intern program is a good opportunity to directly experience work and to build a meaningful career. For further information, please refer to this website. (how.ajou.ac.kr)
