The renovation of the square around the Student Union (Student Union 1, 2) has been completed, which allows visitors to meet at the new square. The square was renovated over approximately two months from May 2021. Students waited for the transformation of the square, and used the auxiliary entrance to the Student Union instead of the main entrance. In 2020, a contest of ideas for the Student Union Square was held, where awards were given and presentations were made. Although it did not go as planned, many facilities were created.
The square in front of Student Union 1 and 2 was originally close to an open space with only sidewalk blocks. Students could not spend time in the square because there were no benches on which to sit; therefore, the place was underutilized. However, the renovation turned it into a venue with many benches and tables that facilitate student interaction. Each table has its own umbrella to allow students to sit outside for a long time. Artificial grass has been planted for landscaping. The square, which used to look desolate, has turned into a bright and lively area.
The square is not the only change at the student center. Since last year, the cafe has been remodeled, and new cafeterias have been created and connected to it. Now, one can enjoy drinks from the cafes inside or outside the Student Union. Let us enjoy the brand-new Student Union when school starts. Since school is currently non-face-to-face, there are not many occasions to visit the place, but if you have a chance to drop in, it would be good to see the student center and experience the new transformation.
