[On Campus] Establishing a Bio Health Regulatory Science Major

Ajou University was chosen to organize the University of Regulatory Science and Talent Training in the field of drug safety evaluation, being recruited by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Accordingly, the university expects to receive 2.5 billion won in government subsidies over the next five years and train more than 120 Master and Doctorate of Regulatory science talents. The College of Pharmacy has an environment suitable for fostering field-oriented talent. Industry-academic cooperation with 70% of Korea’s leading pharmaceutical research institutes (such as Gyeonggi Techno Park, Gwanggyo Techno Valley, and Hyangnam Pharmaceutical Complex) is one of the college’s most notable advantages.

The Department of Bio Health Regulatory Science will select new students to be pharmacology and regulatory science majors in the second semester of this year. Moreover, from the first semester of 2022, new graduate students in Bio Health Regulatory Science will be selected. Both full-time and half-time graduate students will be recruited. To qualify, they will need at least four years of university (meaning, a bachelor’s degree or the domestic / international equivalents) and a doctorate. Full-time students may receive remuneration for all tuition fees until graduation, as well as opportunities to participate in internships projects for pharmaceutical bio companies. They may also receive support for short-term and long-term training and participation fees both locally and abroad.

Lee Sook-hyang, dean of Ajou University College of Pharmacy, said, “We expect that the talented people produced through regulatory science will be in charge of drug safety assessment and new drug development in public institutions.” Applications will be accepted starting June 8, and details of the admission schedule can be found through the Ajou University General Graduate School (http://grad.ajou.ac.kr).
