[On Campus] Lee Heon-hwan, the New Director of the Constitutional Research Institute

On September 9, Lee Heon-hwan, a professor at Ajou University Law School, was appointed as the 6th director of the Constitutional Research Institute (CRI). The CRI is an institute in charge of systematic research and education on the constitution and constitutional trials in the medium and long term.

Professor Lee graduated from the Department of Law at Seoul National University (SNU) and received a master’s degree in law school of SNU in the field of Constitutional Studies. He also earned a doctoral degree under the theme of “Research on Judicial Power in Political Process”. He then served as a professor of Constitutional Study at Ajou University for over 30 years. While there, he also occupied positions as the head of the Law Institute and the Law Library. In addition to his teaching career, he also served as vice-chairman of the Korean Constitutional Law Association, chairman of the Korean Public Law Association, chairman of the Private School Dispute Resolution Committee of the Ministry of Education, and chairman of a select committee on improving the appeal system of the Supreme Court of Korea. Like these things, he has engaged in many social activities in the legal profession.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the CRI’s establishment. That means that Professor Lee is appointed as the new director on its 10th anniversary. The Constitutional Court of Korea said about him, “We expect the new director, Lee Heon-hwan to revitalize the constitution and constitutional research through his abundant research experience on various constitutional topics.” The Ajou Globe (The AG) will also applaud Professor Lee’s new challenge.
