[On Campus] New Regulations for Students

Recently, some new regulations on dormitory living and the use of school Google accounts were introduced. The Ajou University Dormitory had so far allowed students only hall and room type selection; however, since the 2022 summer vacation, it has become possible to select the room one wants. Studentsโ€™ response to this regulation has been positive, because they can now find roommates in advance and pick a room together.

The steps for room selection are as follows. First, check the room selection dates; each hall has a different oneโ€”on the given date, room selection will be conducted on a first-come-first-serve basis from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then, go to the โ€œAcademic Affairs Informationโ€ homepage, and in the โ€œDormitory Applicationโ€ menu, click on the โ€œRoom Selectionโ€ tab; this can be done only on a PC, not on a mobile. Those who do not select a room will be assigned one at random.

Studentsโ€™ response to the new regulation on school Google accounts, however, has been negative. So far, they had been using Google Workspace for Education (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.) for free with unlimited storage through the school Google accounts; however, at the end of June, Google changed its policy, and so, from September 1, Ajou University students will only get 5GB Google storage per person; if the space used exceeds 5GB, the Google Drive may be suspended or deleted. Also, if students graduate, they only can use 1GB from 3 months after graduation. Students can check how much space they have used through this link: https://drive.google.com/settings/storage.

The Information System Team of Ajou University took measures to store 5TB of data in Microsoft OneDrive for free for students who had signed up for the Microsoft 365 service through the school accounts. Those wanting to transfer their data can sign up for Microsoft 365 using the school accounts (through the Ajou University portal) and then use Mover or the Google Drive desktop application for the transfer.
