[On Campus] The Time with Ajou Institute of Unification

No.159 / Sep 5, 2022

On July 26, Ajou Institute of Unification (AIU) successfully ended a field trip related to unification. A total of 121 people, including locals and Ajou University students, went on the trip, and a total of five sessions were held from June to July. The participants visited the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which marks the division, and other Korean War sites; the aim of the trip was to help them recognize the reality of the divided peninsula and realize the need for a peaceful unification and the importance of human rights.

On May 9, Dr. Toby Dalton, director of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP) Foundation’s Nuclear Policy Program, co-organized by AIU and the Gyeongin Unification Education Center, hosted a special lecture. He explained the causes of countries’ nuclear weapons development and evaluated the historical background and characteristics of the North Korean nuclear issue. Including this lecture, Ajou University’s Gyeongin Unification Education Center is sponsoring various educational programs and activities with its vision to become a linker for unification education. In the second half of this year, it is said to be preparing activities such as inviting overseas experts and holding lectures on the unification tour for youth and opening lectures on peaceful unification classes in science and engineering. In addition, they are opening the DMZ metaverse and holding overseas exchange programs for young people. You can apply for these activities on the website of AIU.

Through various programs of AIU, you can understand the situation on the Korean Peninsula and acquire knowledge of peace and unification of divided countries. Why do not you take the time to reflect on the Korean Peninsula issue and think about what our current role is?
